this episode takes a look at the deepest fears of all the core members of the Scooby gang. Willow’s indecision about her witchcraft is reflected in the flock of glowing guides she creates, while Oz struggles with lack of control over his wolfy side. Xander becomes invisible to the others, and who knows what Buffy's fears are.
ngel clearly chooses to be the dark Avenger of LA, but I don’t think it’s because he wants to. I think it’s because he feels he has a debt to repay. So what is it that he actually wants, if he ever allowed himself to think of it?
I can’t get around it. This episode pretends to be about the ‘Gem of Amarra’, but that’s just a little sub-plot. An excuse to get Spike back, and to have a human-centric episode. It's actually about everyone getting together- Spike and Harmony, Anya and Xander, Parker and Buffy.
If people spent less time trying to impress people with what they think they should be like, and spent more time being true to themselves perhaps they would be happier.
In Season 1 this episode may have received a higher score from me, but the show has matured and this episode doesn’t quite cut it.
